Sustainability is important in food production. It has been Mestari’s rule of thumb and motto for decades.

Mestari’s potato is always domestically produced and grown by a Finnish farmer. The products are manufactured with domestic resources in a Finnish company. Even the energy used in the production of the products is domestic. It comes from our own biogas plant, which is operated with domestic expertise.
Sustainability and consideration for the environment is one answer. The potato is a recommended raw ingredient in terms of all the major currently measured environmental impact categories. When building a balanced diet, the potato is a better carbohydrate source than rice and pasta. (source: Finnish Food Authority / Quality potato as a long-time favorite on the dining table).
According to studies, the climate impact of potato production is significantly smaller than that of rice, pasta and instant noodles. When the combined effect of all production greenhouse gases is taken into account as carbon dioxide equivalents, the production of one tonne of rice burdens the atmosphere more than seven times compared to one tonne of potatoes. The climate impact of pasta production is also more than five times that of potatoes.
Thanks to a unique production method, Mestari French fries contain only a drop of fat, and it’s a soft kind. More specifically, heart-friendly rapeseed oil. There isn’t a drop of additives in Mestari French fries. Nor any added salt. The length of the ingredient list on a food package often indicates the degree of processing of the product. The ingredient list of Mestari French fries won’t leave the reader breathless: ‘Finnish potato, vegetable oil’.
About 40 million kilos of potatoes are processed and refined at Mestari’s factory each year. The production generates thousands of tonnes of nutrient-rich side streams that are utilized efficiently. The energy used in production comes from their own biogas plant. The amount of locally produced responsibly sourced energy corresponds to about 600,000 liters of fuel oil per year.
Mestari’s potato product is an eco-friendly choice on the plate.
